I Know It’s Just One Half, But NFL Football Is Back!!!

NFL football is back, and the excitement is palpable as the Hall of Fame Game unfolds tonight on August 1, 2024, in Canton, Ohio. Pregame festivities electrified the crowd as this year’s Hall of Fame inductees took center stage, receiving warm applause from fans eager to celebrate their legendary careers. TV analysts conducted heartfelt interviews, allowing the inductees to reflect on their journeys and share the honor of being enshrined among the greats.

As the Houston Texans are facing off against the Chicago Bears, both teams are showing their determination to make a strong statement in the preseason. The game kicked off with the Texans drawing first blood. Davis Mills connects with Teagan Quitoriano for a 9-yard touchdown pass, putting Houston up 7-0. Mills, a Greater Atlanta Christian graduate (same school as my sons), demonstrated poise in the pocket, efficiently spreading the ball around to his targets.

The Bears responded with a powerful drive led by Brett Rypien. He has done well so far, showcasing impressive timing and accuracy, completing a crucial 27-yard pass to Bates that sets up a touchdown pass to C.Johnson for 20 yards. Rypien’s ability to move the offense and keep the chains moving has energized the Bears’ sideline. His ball placement has been near perfection to wide receiver Collin Johnson, utilizing his height as a primary differentiator.

As the second quarter unfolds, both teams continue to exchange blows. Rypien finds Tommy Sweeney (who looks good) for another touchdown, this time a 22-yard strike, bringing the Bears to a 21-17 lead after an effective drive that features solid runs from D.Felton and K.Herbert.

The Texans’ defense struggles at times, allowing Chicago to capitalize on critical moments. However, C.Keenum leads Houston on a few promising drives, including a notable pass to C.Stover that helps regain momentum after some shaky series.

With both teams displaying strong performances, the tension builds as halftime approaches. The solid execution and competitive spirit on display keep fans on the edge of their seats, eager to see how the second half unfolds in this thrilling matchup. And oh yea, it’s great to see Cam Akers out there showing his skill after coming back this year from having recovered from two consecutive Achilles injuries.

I also personally enjoyed the joy displayed from Texans coach DeMeco Ryans, while being interviewed, talking about his excitement at the pending induction of his teammate and Houston Texans Hall of Famer Andre Johnson (who he said was deserving). Dre is widely regarded as one of the best wide receivers in NFL history, known for his size, all work no talk, exceptional skills, durability, and ability to make big plays. Johnson spent the majority of his career with the Texans and is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2024.
