Father Time Is Chasing, But Travis Kelce Keeps Going

The star tight end of Kansas City Chiefs and one half of the New Heights Podcast brotherhood, Travis Kelce, has already secured his spot in NFL history with three Super Bowl wins, numerous records, and a future Hall of Fame induction. But at 35, retirement is a frequent topic of discussion for the 12-season veteran. His brother Jason already hung up the cleats for game day commentating and podcasting. Kelce admitted his plans change daily, as he’s fully focused on pursuing a third consecutive Super Bowl victory and hasn’t yet considered life after football.

Despite recording his lowest stats in years during the 2024 season—97 receptions for 823 yards and just three touchdowns—Kelce remains committed to the game. He acknowledged that while his individual success has changed, his love for the sport and desire to contribute to the Chiefs’ legacy keeps him going. “I’m not doing it for the stats. I’m doing it for the greatness and the legacy,” he said. His ultimate goal is to continue helping his team win, and when he’s no longer able to do that, he’ll know it’s time to retire.

Kelce’s girlfriend, pop sensation Taylor Swift, is fully supportive of his NFL journey, encouraging him to keep playing. In an appearance at The Stephen A. Smith Show on Jan. 15, Kelce was asked about his potential retirement once again. Trav’s response, “She loves coming to Arrowhead, cheering me on. I’ve got all the support in the world to keep chasing these dreams,” adding that Swift is not pushing him to retire anytime soon.
