Legends Of The Game In Our Generation: Roger Staubach

Roger Thomas Staubach, known as “Roger the Dodger,” “Captain America,” and “Captain Comeback,” is a former NFL quarterback who played 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1963. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Navy, including a tour in Vietnam.

Joining the Cowboys in 1969, Staubach became the franchise’s second major quarterback after Don Meredith. He led Dallas to five Super Bowl appearances, winning two (Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII) as the starting quarterback. He was named MVP of Super Bowl VI, becoming one of only four players to win both the Heisman Trophy and Super Bowl MVP, alongside Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, and Desmond Howard. Staubach was selected to the Pro Bowl six times and is one of only ten players to achieve both the Heisman and Pro Football Hall of Fame honors, being the only quarterback on that list.

He served as executive chairman of the Americas region for Jones Lang LaSalle until his retirement in 2018, the same year he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Staubach is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
