Fort Lauderdale United FC to Launch Men’s Professional Soccer Team in Partnership with USL

FORT LAUDERDALE & TAMPA, Fla. Soccer News – In a move to deepen its slice as a rising powerhouse in South Florida’s soccer scene, Fort Lauderdale United FC (FTL UTD) has announced plans to launch a men’s professional soccer team in partnership with the United Soccer League (USL). The exciting development comes as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to serve as a cornerstone for the local community while expanding its presence in global competition.

FTL UTD has already made waves in the soccer world, boasting a strong reputation in the USL Super League, a premier women’s professional league sanctioned by the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF). The club’s growth on and off the pitch has been impressive, including a significant $7 million investment in Beyond Bancard Field, a 7,000-seat stadium that will play a pivotal role in the club’s future. This major upgrade, completed ahead of the club’s inaugural season in the Super League, sets the stage for what’s to come.

As FTL UTD prepares to expand its reach, the club plans to not only introduce a men’s professional team but also field men’s pre-professional and women’s pre-professional teams this summer. The men’s team will compete in USL League Two, while the women’s team will join the USL W League. These moves reflect FTL UTD’s vision of building a comprehensive, multi-tiered soccer ecosystem that nurtures talent at all levels, from grassroots to professional competition.

Tommy Smith, Chairman and CEO of FTL UTD, expressed his enthusiasm for the club’s future: “We are proud to announce that Fort Lauderdale United FC is advancing plans to establish a men’s professional team in the near future. This initiative underscores our commitment to the growth of soccer in South Florida and our dedication to shaping the future of the sport within our community.”

The announcement comes on the heels of FTL UTD’s recent successes, including the club’s growing fan base and strong performances in the Super League. The expansion into men’s professional soccer is seen as a natural next step for the club, one that reflects both its ambition and its commitment to the sport’s long-term growth in the region.

“We are thrilled to see Fort Lauderdale United FC’s continued evolution,” said Justin Papadakis, USL’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer & Chief Real Estate Officer. “Expanding into men’s professional soccer is a logical progression for a club that has already made a significant impact in the Super League and is set to compete in both League Two and the W League this summer. With its growing presence, a clear vision, and a focus on long-term success, FTL UTD is primed to make a significant impact in the professional soccer landscape.”

South Florida is no stranger to soccer enthusiasm, and with this new chapter, FTL UTD aims to bring even more excitement to the region. The club’s expansion efforts serve as a testament to the vibrant soccer culture in the area and the increasing demand for high-level competition.

As the team looks to take the next step in its journey, fans and supporters are encouraged to stay updated on the latest news and developments through FTL UTD’s social media channels on Instagram, X, and TikTok. With the promise of a bright future ahead, the launch of the men’s professional team marks just the beginning of what’s sure to be an exciting new era for soccer in South Florida.

In January 2025, Fort Lauderdale United FC (FTL UTD) announced the closing of a seven-figure investment from Future Sporting Ventures (FSV). Future Sporting Ventures will work to accelerate the growth of Fort Lauderdale United Holdings, LLC, inclusive of all clubs, stadiums, practice fields, concessions, merchandise, concerts and ancillary events.
