Today, Packed House Sports mourns the loss of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at 100 years old. The 39th president of the United States, his post-presidential work as a humanitarian set a modern standard for the legacy presidents can build after leaving the White House.
From his early days as governor of Georgia, where he boldly declared from the State Capitol steps, “The time for racial discrimination is over. No poor, rural, weak, or Black person should ever have to bear the additional burden of being deprived of the opportunity of an education, a job, or simple justice”, to his lifelong commitment to equality, Mr. Carter’s leadership was steeped in an unwavering belief in dignity for all people.
Mr. Carter’s family work with peanut farming was important as it shaped his deep understanding of rural life, agricultural challenges, and the values of hard work, which influenced his leadership and commitment to economic and social justice throughout his public service. Mr. Carter was a champion of peace, human rights, and renewable energy, but his greatest legacy is his dedication to improving lives worldwide through the Carter Center. His life was defined by compassion, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to those most in need. Married to his beloved wife Eleanor Rosalynn Carter for 77 years, he leaves behind a profound legacy of faith, love and service.
The 100-year-old president, the only one from Georgia, will be remembered for his extraordinary impact on our nation and the world. We remember him also for his consistent support as an avid Atlanta Braves fan. We’ll all miss his presence at the baseball games. Godspeed sir! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and world community of friends.
