[Opening Scene: Imagine the familiar hum of a college football broadcast, the camera zooms in on the studio as the screen flashes with highlights of jaw-dropping plays from championship week. The crowd roars. The final whistle blows. The students storm the field. The graphics change to the AP Top 25 rankings with Oregon at No. 1, Georgia at No. 2, and Texas, Penn State, and Ohio State rounding out the top five.]
Narrator (voice-over):
“After an unforgettable championship weekend, the 2024 AP Top 25 is here, and it’s already causing waves across the college football landscape. From surprise teams making the leap into the top 10, to head-scratching decisions on teams like Alabama and Penn State, the rankings have everyone talking. And when the poll drops, there’s no one better equipped to break it all down than two of the sharpest football minds in the business.”
[Cut to the studio: ChuckBoti Almani and Alfredo BotGucci sitting behind the desk, their eyes locked on the glowing screen in front of them. ChuckBoti leans forward, adjusting his mic. Alfredo does the same, his expression one of eager anticipation.]
Narrator (voice-over):
“Here to dissect the controversy, the upsets, and the rankings that are sure to spark debate for weeks to come… it’s ChuckBoti Almani and Alfredo BotGucci!”

[The camera zooms in as ChuckBoti gives a nod, a slight smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.]
ChuckBoti Almani (with a smile):
“Well, Alfredo, it’s that time again. The AP Poll is out, and folks, this one is anything but straightforward. There’s no shortage of storylines to dive into. From Ohio State still sitting behind Penn State—even after that head-to-head win—to the ACC getting absolutely no respect, and don’t even get me started on Alabama somehow still hanging in the top 15 despite two absolutely brutal losses.”
[Alfredo BotGucci leans forward, adjusting his tie as he chuckles lightly.]
Alfredo BotGucci (with a grin):
“Oh, you bet, Chuck. This is what we live for—figuring out how the committee and voters come up with these rankings, and why certain teams seem to get the benefit of the doubt while others get snubbed. Take Clemson, for example—they win the ACC and still sit at No. 13! And then there’s the rise of Arizona State—who would’ve thought we’d see them in the top 10 again after all these years? So much to unpack, and we’re just getting started.”
[ChuckBoti Almani leans back in his chair, shaking his head slightly.]
ChuckBoti Almani:
“You’re right, Alfredo. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover here. And trust me, the College Football Playoff picture is getting clearer… but not any less complicated. So, let’s break down why these rankings matter, who got shafted, and which teams could be peaking at the right time. You won’t want to miss this conversation!”
[The camera zooms out, the screen flashes the AP Top 25 rankings one more time as the tension builds.]
Narrator (voice-over):
“Don’t go anywhere. The debate begins now.”

[ChuckBoti Almani]
Alright, folks, the AP Top 25 Poll is out, and there’s a lot to unpack here. Some surprising movements, a few questionable rankings, and of course, the usual debate about which teams are getting the respect they deserve.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
“Before we dive into the big-name programs, let’s take a moment to talk about one of the most underrated teams in this entire playoff race: Boise State. The Broncos are quietly sitting in the top 10, and for all the attention on the usual suspects, they’re one of the least talked-about teams in the field. But let’s not forget—they gave Oregon everything they could handle earlier this season. That was one of the most competitive games Oregon had all year.”
[Alfredo BotGucci]
“Absolutely, Chuck. Boise State may not have the flash or the star power of some of these other programs, but they’ve been consistent all season long. Their offense is high-powered, and their defense can go toe-to-toe with anyone. That game against Oregon was a testament to willpower in how tough they are, and I think if they had gotten a couple of breaks, we could be talking about a different outcome. This is a team that could cause some serious damage in the playoffs if they can keep that momentum going.”
[ChuckBoti Almani]
“Exactly, Alfredo. They’re one of those teams that always seems to fly under the radar, but they’ve got the talent and the coaching to compete with the big dogs. You don’t put up a fight like that against Oregon without being a legitimate contender. They’re a dangerous sleeper in this field, and if they get matched up with one of the higher-ranked teams, don’t be shocked if they pull off an upset.”
[Alfredo BotGucci]
“I couldn’t have said it better myself. Boise State is one of those teams that could make a lot of noise this postseason. They’ve got Ashton Jeanty, the experience, the system, did I mention Ashton Jeanty (laughs)? And the mindset of a program that’s used to knocking on the door. If they get a shot, watch out.”
[ChuckBoti Almani]
“Keep an eye on them, folks. Boise State is a team that may not get the respect they deserve, but they’ll make you take notice when it matters most.”
[ChuckBoti Almani]
“Let’s dive into the big points, starting with Ohio State versus Penn State. Now, everyone knows that Ohio State beat Penn State head-to-head earlier in the season, but somehow, Penn State is ranked above them in the poll. How does that work?”
[Alfredo BotGucci]
Yeah, Chuck, this one’s tough to understand. If you beat a team head-to-head, that should count for something, right? And Ohio State got the win over Penn State earlier this season. But here we are with Penn State sitting at No. 4 and Ohio State at No. 5. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if you just go by the logic of “Who beat who?” But, look, the rankings are more than just one game—it’s about the whole season. Penn State got in and played well in the Big Ten Championship, and they’ve been more consistent when it mattered than Ohio State, especially when it comes to quality of wins. Ohio State didn’t even make it to their conference title game, and they lost to Michigan, so they’re paying the price for that.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
Exactly, Alfredo. And when you look at the rest of the body of work, Penn State has a more complete season. Sure, Ohio State beat them head-to-head, but Penn State didn’t get the same breaks. Ohio State had that big loss to Michigan, and not playing for a conference title hurts your case. Penn State might not have won the conference, but they performed well enough in the championship game and showed they’re a top-tier team overall. It’s a tough one to swallow because many say Penn State just never wins the big game, but I think the voters valued consistency, and in this case, Penn State‘s performance against high-level competition put them ahead of Ohio State.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
And that leads us to the ACC—and wow, talk about a conference getting disrespected. Clemson, the ACC champions, are sitting at No. 13 with a 10-3 record, despite winning the title. Meanwhile, SMU, who lost to Clemson in a close game, finds themselves at No. 12. How is this happening?
[ChuckBoti Almani]
This is a real head-scratcher. Clemson wins the ACC, and they’re ranked below a bunch of teams with two losses? It’s baffling. Yes, they had 3 losses, but at the tail end of the season Clemson was solid, and that win over SMU in the conference championship should have earned them a little more respect. And a really good SMU team is sitting just one spot below them after losing that game. What we’re seeing here is the overall lack of respect for the ACC, and that’s been a theme for years now. The league just hasn’t had the same level of national respect for their competition compared to the SEC or Big Ten, and that hurts its top teams. Clemson, SMU, Miami, Duke, Syracuse, and Georgia Tech have had decent seasons, but with the ACC being considered less competitive, that affects their ranking.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
I couldn’t agree more. Clemson should definitely be higher than No. 13, especially after winning the conference, but the ACC just doesn’t have that national perception. Miami, Louisville, Syracuse—those teams had big enough seasons to elevate the conference as a whole, but they get waved off. It’s frustrating because Clemson did what they had to do, as did SMU, but they’re still penalized for being in a league that doesn’t have the same high profile as the SEC or Big Ten. SMU, at 11-2, had a great season, but when you’re playing in a conference like the ACC, you’re not going to get the same respect.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
Exactly, Alfredo. And it’s a shame because these ACC teams deserve more recognition. Clemson and SMU were both worthy of higher rankings. The reality, though, is that teams in power conferences like the SEC and Big Ten are going to get more of the benefit of the doubt.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
And speaking of the SEC, let’s talk about Alabama. Under Kalen Daboer, this team came did not make the SEC Championship and they had two bad losses—to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma—but somehow, they’re still sitting at No. 11 in the rankings. How does that make sense?
[ChuckBoti Almani]
I’ll tell you, Alfredo, that’s one that doesn’t sit right. We all know Alabama has a legacy and a big brand, but you can’t tell me they deserve to be No. 11 after losing to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma—and those weren’t close losses. You’d think those kinds of results would knock them out of the top 15, let alone the top 10. But the name Alabama carries so much weight, and I think voters are giving them the benefit of the doubt based on history and recruiting classes. But this year, those two losses should be enough to drop them lower than they are.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
Yeah, I get the historical factor, but you can’t keep rewarding Alabama just for wearing the crimson jersey. The loss to Vanderbilt, in particular, is a killer. And while they played Georgia tough in the SEC Championship, that’s still not enough to justify keeping them at No. 11. Alabama just hasn’t been consistent enough to earn that spot. Teams like Arizona State, Clemson, and even Texas had better overall seasons.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
Exactly, Alfredo. I get it—Kalen Daboer has them playing hard, and they have a lot of talent. But those two losses, and the fact that Alabama didn’t even play in the SEC title game, means they should have slipped much further in the rankings. Instead, they’re still treated like they’re this elite, untouchable team.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
And then we have Georgia, who moved up to No. 2 after a hard-fought overtime win against Texas in the SEC Championship. Georgia’s been rock solid all year, and I think this ranking is deserved. They’ve shown time and again they’re one of the best teams in the country, and that win over Texas just solidified their spot.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
Absolutely. Georgia has been steady all season, and that overtime win just proves that they are built for these kinds of games. With Oregon sitting at No. 1, Georgia at No. 2, and a bunch of other teams fighting for playoff spots, it’s clear the Bulldogs are one of the top contenders for a title this year. They earned their move up, and now they get that coveted first-round playoff bye.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
No doubt about it, Chuck. Georgia’s rise to No. 2 is a natural progression. They’ve been the class of the SEC, and they ended the year with two big wins! A win against a tough rival Georgia Tech which took 8 overtimes to get it done. And, their second win over Texas just capped off a strong finish to the season.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
And let’s not forget Arizona State. The Sun Devils are in the top 10 for the first time in over a decade after their impressive win over Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship. Arizona State has been a pleasant surprise this season. They’ve had an incredible turnaround, and now they’re one of the teams in the playoff conversation.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
What a story, Chuck. Arizona State has gone from a team that couldn’t get out of its own way to now being in the top 10 with a legitimate shot at the playoff. Their win over Iowa State was big, and they’ve earned every bit of this ranking. A fantastic turnaround for a program that’s been down for years.
[ChuckBoti Almani]
At the end of the day, this poll highlights the complexities of college football rankings. Some teams are getting the benefit of the doubt because of their history and brand—Alabama, for example—while others, like Clemson and the ACC, are getting overlooked despite strong performances. We’re in for a wild playoff race, and this poll is just the beginning of what will surely be some heated debates.
[Alfredo BotGucci]
Exactly, Chuck. And that’s why we love this game. Every season is full of surprises, and the rankings are always a point of contention. That’s what keeps us talking all year long. Let the social debates begin! But wait…there breaking news just in! Oh my goodness, the committee just ranked the final playoff teams and there is justice after all. The ACC’s SMU and Clemson get in! Wow!
[ChuckBoti Almani]
Unreal Alfredo! And there it is folks!
