Olympic Surprise: Yuto Horigome Retains Title in Thrilling Men’s Street Final
In a breathtaking display of skill and determination, Japan’s Yuto Horigome dazzled the crowd with a spectacular final trick to ascend the leaderboard and defend his Olympic title during the men’s street final at La Concorde on July 29.
Horigome finished with a score of 281.14, just 0.1 points ahead of Team USA’s Jagger Eaton, who upgraded his bronze medal from Tokyo 2020 to secure a silver medal this time around. Eaton’s teammate, Nyjah Huston, took home the bronze with a score of 279.38, marking his first Olympic medal.
Huston had maintained the lead for much of the competition, but everything changed after Eaton executed an incredible fourth trick that shifted the momentum. It all came down to Horigome’s fifth and final run, where he delivered an unforgettable performance that solidified his victory.
Ryan Sheckler, a legendary figure in the skateboarding world, described the final as “the gnarliest final of competitive skateboarding that I’ve ever seen,” capturing the electric atmosphere that left thousands of fans in the Urban Park arena in awe.
With Horigome’s triumph, the excitement of skateboarding at the Olympics continues to grow, highlighting the sport’s increasing prominence on the global stage.
